Clan History: The Rikouru are a clan of ninja monks originally founded by Rikouru Senpuku, years before the villages were found. Originally a clan of ordinary monks, Senpuku, lead his people away from warring ninja to a safe haven in the mountains of current Earth Country. The monks created their temples on the mountain tops overlooking the valleys below. There, they practiced their religion in harmony. All they ever wanted was to live in peace.
Things are never so simple, are they?
The Rikouru were soon dragged into wars despite their best efforts. Violence spilled into their mountains, leading them to develop the Dharma Fuuinjutsu Kekkei Genkai as a defensive measure, using it only to protect their pacifist ways from attackers. For a few years, this worked. Rumours of powerful shinobi monks guarding the mountains of Tsuchi no Kuni began deterring shinobi from venturing into the area.
However, where some where scared of their power, others were drawn to it. The first Tsuchikage, in his ambition to create a Hidden Village and unify the mountainous regions in the northwest under his rule, approached the Rikouru, proposing an allegiance. The Rikouru rejected the offer, stating they had no desire to partake in the wars of other shinobi and merely wanted to be left alone and at peace. The Tsuchikage didn’t accept no for an answer, however, and led his men to attack the monks.
The monks managed to defend their temples for quite some time, but in the end they were outmatched and outnumbered. After most of their members had been killed and their members had been, they realized they had no choice but to subjugate them to the Tsuchikage.
Nowadays the Rikouru are part of Iwagakure’s forces. In order to combine their monk’s creed with life as a shinobi, they have developed a new code that all members must abide by.
1. Always seek to be in balance. Strive for inner peace.
2. Suffering comes from worldly attachment.
3. Respect all life.
4. Do not waste your time and energy on luxury.
5. Do not use alcohol.
6. Seek violence only as a last-resort measure.
7. Never apply more violence than necessary.
The first rule applies to not only a healthy lifestyle, but to the finding of inner peace. Inner peace means being honest with oneself, accepting ones shortcomings and staying close to ones nature.
